Peter Marsh is Professor of Child and Family Welfare and Academic Director of Enterprise at the University of Sheffield. He was previously Dean of Social Sciences. His professional qualifications are in sociology and social work, and he spent ten years as a lecturer/social worker in a joint post between the University and a community-based team.

His work has been in the area of social innovation, including many new developments that address long-standing social problems. He was Deputy Chair of the group that proposed Social Work Practices, and before that was working on practice development in the Primary Care Research and Development Unit at the University. Current and recent research has been on mutualisation of public services, a strategy for social social work research, and the evaluation of different aspects of Family Group Conferences. He is professional advisor to the Research in Practice evidence-based services initiative.
