Ready to Practise? (National Social Work Education Study) (1996)
Despite improvements in social work education and training there are still substantial gaps in the ‘fit’ between the needs of social work practice and the educational provision on courses and in the first year of work, according to research from Sheffield and Edinburgh Universities.
The study, based on the views of newly qualified staff and supervisors, shows that closer integration is needed between the courses and this first year, with more specialised elements within courses, linking with specific training for newly qualified staff during their initial practice.
